Why we bill with BTCPay Server (and what it means for you)

When we designed WAGate's billing we had three requirements: it had to work for customers anywhere in the world, it had to be private, and it had to activate plans automatically the moment a payment lands. BTCPay Server ticked all three.

What BTCPay Server is

BTCPay is open-source, self-hosted payment processing for Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. There's no third-party processor holding funds, no account that can be frozen, and no card network between you and us. When you pay, the coins go straight to our wallet and BTCPay tells our system the invoice is settled.

How checkout works

In the dashboard you pick a plan and a duration — 1, 3, 6 or 12 months.
We create a BTCPay invoice for the AUD amount; BTCPay converts it to crypto at the current rate and shows a QR code.
Pay with Bitcoin on-chain, Lightning (instant, near-zero fees), or any other coin our store accepts.
When the payment is confirmed, BTCPay notifies us over a signed webhook and your number flips to active with the new expiry date — usually within seconds for Lightning, after confirmations for on-chain.

If you buy while a plan is already running, the new period is added to the end of the current one, so renewing early never costs you days.

Why it's better for you

Privacy. No card number, billing address or bank details on file. Your account is an email and a password.
Global. Works identically whether you're in Brisbane, Berlin or Bangkok, with no currency conversion fees from a card issuer.
Cheap & fast. Lightning payments settle in a second for a fraction of a cent.
Transparent. Every invoice is in your dashboard with status and a link back to the BTCPay checkout.

Don't have crypto?

Any major exchange will sell you a few dollars of Bitcoin and let you pay a Lightning or on-chain invoice directly from the app. If you'd rather arrange something else — bank transfer for an annual plan, say — contact us and we can activate manually.
